Stay at Christchurch City Central Motel or Latimer Hotel (5 mins walk to Cathedral Square, 15mins walk to Hagley Park or central bus exchange 10mins). 
Day 1 Christchurch - Tekapo 2 nights MT John Observatory (day trip to Mt Cook).
Day 3 Tekapo -Queenstown
Day 4 Queenstown - Te Anau
Day 5 Te Anau Milford Sound TeAnau
Day 6 Te Anau Queenstown
Day 7 Queenstown- Wanaka
Day 8 Wanaka - Franz Josef Glacier (Walk or Helicopter Flight on to Glacier)
Day 9 Franz Josef - Hokitika
Day 10 Hokitika - Punakaiki Rocks
Day 11, 12, 13  Punakaiki- Marahau.  Marahau is situated on the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park.  This is the area I would suggest you stay for 2 full days  Great for kayaking or tramping or day ride to Takaha  and Farewell Spit. We use Abel Tasman Haven for our accommodation here.  These people only have 3 self contained units available and are well priced. All our clients who use these people are really happy.
Day 14 Marahau- Hanmer Springs via Lewis Pass
Day 15 Hanmer Springs-  Kaikoura and go whale watching
